Red and Silver Christmas Ornaments

Oil on Canvas Panel
6x6

My daughter is studying German as a freshman in high school.  Last night, she put one of her cowboy boots (yes, we live in Texas) by the fire for Sankt Nikolaus--announced that December 6th is St. Nicholas Day--and wondered (aloud--several times) if  it would be filled with goodies overnight.  Of course, I studied German for 6 years and was  prepared.  Sankt Nikolaus filled that boot with  treats, sweets AND a new package of dental floss!  What a guy....

Gulf Crab

Oil on Gallery-Wrapped Canvas
24x12
SOLD

As an Eastern Seaboard resident, I was well-acquainted with the exquisite blue crabs from the Chesapeake Bay.  Their delectable meat, kissed with Old Bay seasoning and dipped in vinegar is an incomparable eating experience.  Imagine my surprise one year upon visiting a local crab house in Virginia and finding out that the crabs were flown in from Texas!

Now a resident of Texas, I dearly miss my Atlantic coast, yet I am grateful for the bounty of the Gulf of Mexico.  Every time I visit Galveston, I pack my personal supply of Old Bay and hit the wharves in search of this culinary treasure.  It's almost like being home again....

Gulf Oyster Shell

Oil
20x20

There is nothing like slurping down freshly shucked oysters at the beach -- with lots of sand between your toes!  Alas, in Austin, I must sit at an oyster bar.  At least my car won't get sandy....

Edsel

Oil
12x12

This Ford Edsel is based on a photograph that a high school friend posted on Facebook during a cross-country trip with his family.  I, of course, requested permission to use his pic.  Not bad for my first painting of a car!

Making Waves

18x24
Oil

We've all seen them:  paintings that look like they were made by a gorilla that sell for record amounts of money in the art world.  After a particularly frustrating day (and seeing some of those astronomical purchase prices via a fellow artist's Facebook post), I temporarily regressed back to the simpler days of childhood.  Using leftover paint on my palette and my trusty middle finger, I created this seascape fingerpainting.  Enjoy.

Set of 6 ORIGINAL Sushi Miniature Paintings/ACEOs/Note Cards

Set of 6 Acrylic Paintings
Bristol 400 with Linen Texture (acid and lignin-free)

Hello there!  I am currently recuperating from a tonsillectomy, so my artistic juices aren't flowing as mush as the apple juice I am forced to drink.  In my "absence" from the real world, I have put together a set of miniature paintings (ACEOs) of various types of sushi. These are ORIGINAL paintings (3.5 x 2.5) that can be framed or used as note cards and/or unique gifts for sushi-loving friends or family members.

Each painting comes in a protective acetate sleeve along with a die-cut frame card and envelope. The sushi consists of the following:  California roll with chopsticks, fried egg nigiri, octopus nigiri, salmon nigiri, salmon roe, and shrimp nigiri.  Just think, these will never spoil!

I plan to offer other miniature painting/note card sets in the near future.  If you have any suggestions for subject matter, I am listening!

Striped Pumpkin

Oil on Belgian Linen Panel
6x6

Here's another little charmer.  This pumpkin has, miraculously, survived on my desk for the past year.  It's time on this planet is limited, though.  Before saying "goodbye" and adding it to the compost bin, I chose to immortalize my little bulbous friend.  You made me smile!

Pumpkin Stem

Oil on Belgian Linen Panel
6x6

It may be near 100 degrees in central Texas, but I've already begun my autumn decorating.  You can take the girl out of New England, but you can't take New England out of the girl!

Pumpkins should arrive in a few weeks, but why wait?  This little charmer won't get mushy!

Miniature Painting - Conch Shell

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5

This conch shell was actually found on the dirt floor of one of our barns in Central Texas!  I wonder what stories it could tell....

Miniature Painting - Red Onion

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5
SOLD

Okay, I have a thing for onions.  I actually rummage through the bins at the grocery store looking for tattered models; onlookers must think I am insane.

Habanero #3

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5
SOLD

This habanero was originally orange; however, it wanted to distiguish it from the first habanero I painted; thus, I added colors found in some of the other unpicked peppers in my garden.

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Habanero #2

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
3.5 x 2.5
SOLD

Another pepper from the garden--much rounder in form than the previous habanero.

ACEO Art Card/Miniature Painting - Habanero #1

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5
SOLD

This little jewel was grown in my garden.  Scoville rating:  100,000 - 350,000 heat units.  I don't eat these, just paint them!

Oysters on the Half Shell with Lemon

Oil on Belgian Linen Panel
6x6

Freshly shucked oysters can still be had--regardless of the time of year--here in Austin.  My mother, daughter, and I recently dined at Perla's on South Congress and, of course, ordered the oysters.  Lots of photos were taken (of the oysters, not the family).  These were part of my lunch....

Miniature Painting/ACEO Art Card - Oyster

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
3.5 x 2.5

I know, I know.  This isn't a month with an "R" in it.  I can dream, though!

Miniature Painting/ACEO Art Card - Cayenne Peppers

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
3.5 x 2.5
SOLD

Garden produce!  I think I am growing 8 different kinds of peppers with ratings that run the gamut on the Scoville scale.  These cayennes are a  mere 30-50,000 heat units.  That's NOTHING here in Texas!

Miniature Painting/ACEO Art Card #21 - Rooster

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5
SOLD

We had three baby chicks in my backyard.  As long as they were hens, my neighbors were "on board" with this arrangement (they ARE legal in my town). Imagine my shock when I went outside to visit with them (the chicks, not the neighbors) and one started crowing at me!  (I admit, as he grew, he was starting to look a little different....)

Clearly, eggs are not in his future. Needless to say, he now resides on a farm in La Grange.  This little painting pays homage to that little cock....  :)

Miniature Painting/ACEO Art Card #20 - Tennis Ball

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
3.5 x 2.5
SOLD

My daughter is a 9th grader!  Time has truly flown!
Today and tomorrow, she is trying out for the JV/Varsity tennis teams at her high school; thus, tennis is definitely on this household's mind....

Sand Dollar

Oil on Gallery-Wrapped Canvas
12 x 12 x 5/8

Ahhhh, finally--a LARGE painting!  While I continue to practice techniques and explore different subjects with my miniature acrylic paintings, I still love the buttery feel of oils.

This painting is available through UGallery.
It is also available as a print in a couple of  rectangular sizes through Turning Art
and square sizes (as originally painted) through Fine Art America.

Miniature Painting/ACEO Art Card #19 - Tumbling Dice

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5

I heard the Rolling Stones' classic song, "Tumbling Dice," on the radio.  Here is my very literal visual version....

Miniature Painting/ACEO Art Card - Sand Dollar No. 1

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5
SOLD

I'm dreaming of the beach again.  We weren't able to go to the coast this summer and I'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms as a result.  This little sand dollar (from one I found near the surf in Galveston) certainly helps ease the suffering!

Miniature Painting/ACEO Art Card #16 - Cheeseburger

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5

A cheeseburger is only as good as the contents that drip down you arm....

Miniature Painting/ACEO Art Card #15 - Honey Bee

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5
SOLD

Have you ever heard of an "ear worm?"  For the uninitiated, a earworm is a song that remains stuck in one's head, repeating ad nauseum.  This happens to me frequently.  Usually, it is a some cringe-worthy musical trash that invades my brain.  Sometimes, though, it is a song that I genuinely enjoy.

What do earworms have to do with this painting.  Everything!  My current earworm is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Honey Bee."  Today's painting was the result.  (Thank you, Tom!)

Miniature Painting/Art Card #14 - Key to My Heart

Key to My Heart
Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5
SOLD

I adore skeleton keys and have a collection of them that are still in use at our old farmhouse.  Each door requires a different key, causing a bit of confusion!  Anyway, while painting this, I thought a splotch of color was needed.  I've always enjoyed the phrase, "key to my heart."  Hence, a small Valentine's Day candy fit the requirement.

Miniature Painting/Art Card #13 - Mussel Shell

Mussel Shell
Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
3.5 x 2.5
SOLD

I am craving some fresh mussels.  Alas, the Gulf of Mexico does not provide these tasty mollusks.  Thus, I must either relish the memories of my life back East or buy frozen mussels in a grocery store.  I prefer the former....

Miniature Painting/Art Card #12 - Baseball

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
3.5 x 2.5
SOLD

I can't believe we've already experienced the All Stars Game!  Baseball is in full swing (pun intended!) and I have enjoyed several AAA games at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas.  My family and I had to leave early during one of the games (work, morning appointments).  While reluctantly walking to the car, a foul ball flew over the stadium roof and landed in front of us.  Needless to say, my daughter promptly retrieved it from under a parked SUV.  Here it is....

Oh, to wear THE perfect shade of red lipstick!  If all girls could find the shade meant just for them, the world would be a more vibrant place!

Miniature Painting/ACEO Art Card #10 - Sunny Side Up

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5

I love my fresh eggs--especially cooked in butter!  This egg, fresh from a neighbor's farm, was savored bite by bite early one morning with some homegrown, sauteed tomatoes on the side.  Mmmmmm....

ACEO Art Card #9 - Rubber Ducky

 Left:
Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
3.5 x 2.5

Who remembers Ernie singing "Rubber Ducky" on Sesame Street.  I do!  In fact, I thought Ernie's rubber ducky was so endearing that I bought my own--as an adult--to enjoy in the tub.  TMI?  Well, this little guy can be enjoyed anywhere and is in need of a good home.  Rubber Ducky, you're the one....

ACEO Art Card #6 Sunflower

Sunflower
Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
2.5 x 3.5

Here is a rare attempt at painting a flower--in this case, a sunflower from my backyard.  I don't know why I struggle with them!  Rather than a realistic approach, I've tried a more impressionistic one.

Any thoughts?

ACEO/Art Card #4 - "Ketchup Squeeze Bottle"

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
with Art Frame Card and Envelope
2.5 x 3.5

When I see a ketchup squeeze bottle, I think of picnics, barbecues, and diners.  I never eat ketchup, though, on my fries--malt vinegar is more my style.  Yet, these bottles are a piece of culinary Americana, regardless of taste preferences.  (Of course, a ketchup squeeze bottle is always accompanied by a _______ squeeze bottle.  Guess the subject of tomorrow's miniature painting....)

ACEO/Art Card #3 - Martini with Olive

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
3.5 x 2.5
SOLD
I am addicted to olives.  Green, purple, brown or black, stuffed or marinated, they are in incredible snack and cooking ingredient.  Here is yet another little painting that pays homage to this meaty treat.

ACEO/Art Card #2 - Olive Trio

Acrylic on Bristol Series 300
3.5 x 2.5
SOLD

As mentioned in my previous post, I have entered the ACEO/art card field.  These miniature paintings--the size of baseball cards--are an affordable and collectible way to obtain original art.

I am currently selling these on eBay.  The paintings are lightly varnished for protection, then enclosed in a poly sleeve prior to insertion in a die-cut frame card.  A blank envelope is included as well.

I've just completed art card #31, so I have lots of posts coming your way and will include links to the items that are still available.

ACEO/Art Cards - Sunny Side Up

Sunny Side Up
3.5 x 2.5
SOLD

As I mentioned yesterday, I have several irons in the fire.  Greeting cards (in the infancy stage) are a new way to introduce people to my art.  An even more exciting approach (in my opinion, of course) is my line of "art cards" which feature ORIGINAL works of art.

Art cards, also known as ACEOs (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) are miniature original artworks that equal the size of baseball cards (3.5 inches x 2.5 inches). They can be collected, used as actual cards, given as gifts, or even framed and enjoyed for years to come.  (Ultimately, I hope my works will enjoy the latter idea.)

I began selling art cards on eBay (a common locale for ACEOs) a few weeks ago and have gained many new clients, both here and abroad. A few have purchased more than one for their own personal use.  Needless to say, I am quite pleased with the initial results.

I will post more of these little paintings in the coming days/weeks/months and provide links to the pieces that are currently available.

Enjoy!

Greeting Cards

Hello, strangers!  It has been a busy few months and I've been spreading my wings in many directions.  The most recent, as mentioned in this post's title, is greeting cards!

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by GreetingCardUniverse.com (Target is one of their clients) to create special occasion cards.  I've only submitted a few thus far (I'm honing my Photoshop skills big time and still only know how to utilize a miniscule amount of its power!), but just found out that the above painting/card is today's "Design of the Day."  Wow.

I'll be plodding along with this side business as I rev up my engine for more original paintings in the coming month.  Having my daughter home from school for the summer, however, has created numerous, pleasant distractions.  (Alas, that doesn't pay the bills--it only creates more!)

I'll keep you posted.... (Get it?  Posted?  Tee hee....)  Enjoy your day!

P.S.  The original painting is still available.  Please contact me for further information regarding size, pricing, et. al.  Thanks!

Two Fried Eggs

Oil on Gallery-Wrapped Canvas

What could be better than a fresh egg, fried in butter?  Two fresh eggs, fried in butter, of course!

Fried Egg

Oil on Gallery-Wrapped Canvas
10x10x5/8

Fresh eggs from backyard chickens have spoiled me.  Their color, texture, and flavor are incomparable to store-bought cartons of questionable origin and ethics.  In honor of those hardworking hens, I have immortalized  one of their incredible gifts for my breakfast plate.
