Here it is--my first stone crab claw painting. Being an East Coast girl, I am used to eating Maryland blue crabs from the Chesapeake Bay. In fact, I can pick crabs with the best of them. Stone crabs, though, are not Maryland blues. Only the claw meat is eaten--assuming you can get to it....
We are not talking about gently hammering at the claw with a wooden mallet or using a lobster/crab/nut cracker device. NOOOOOOOOOOOO. They have to be whacked with the blunt end of a cleaver--which can be disturbing to the uninitiated. Half the time, claw manages to slip from my grip and land on the floor. The rest of the time, I end up pulverizing the meat with shattered shell shards.
Let's just say, it is easier to paint a stone crab claw than to eat it. Instead of singing the blues, I'll just eat them instead.
