Supermarket Sushi

Supermarket Sushi
Kristine Kainer
Oil
10x8

Every now and then, the sushi case at my local supermarket calls my name. Glistening little delicacies of hand cut and formed fish and rice maki, nigiri, and rolls beckon to be taken home, kissed with soy sauce and a dab of wasabi, and eaten with delight.  (Washing it down with a Kirin Ichiban or Sapporo doesn't hurt either.) Yes, supermarket sushi is not upscale, nor is it meant to be.  The green plastic grass like garnish and a foil package of soy sauce make that obvious.  Yet, it can "hit the spot" when a burger and fries just won't do.

Maryland Blue Crab

Oil on canvas on panel, 6x6--SOLD.
I've been told that there are Texas blue crabs in the Gulf of Mexico, but I've yet to see or taste one in Texas. Maryland's crustaceans rule (especially with Old Bay seasoning)!

Bucket of Chicken

SOLD-- This 6x6 daily painting consists of last night's dinner. It is the first time I've bought a bucket since moving from Virginia in 2003! Needless to say, it was delicioso and our family of three has leftovers. (Guess what's for dinner tonight?) It's on eBay, if interested....
