Supermarket Sushi

Every now and then, the sushi case at my local supermarket calls my name. Glistening little delicacies of hand cut and formed fish and rice maki, nigiri, and rolls beckon to be taken home, kissed with soy sauce and a dab of wasabi, and eaten with delight.  (Washing it down with a Kirin Ichiban or Sapporo doesn't hurt either.) Yes, supermarket sushi is not upscale, nor is it meant to be.  The green plastic grass like garnish and a foil package of soy sauce make that obvious.  Yet, it can "hit the spot" when a burger and fries just won't do.

Making jelly is a new hobby of mine -- blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, even fig and loquat -- have found their way into canning jars, my pantry, and my mouth.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

A staple of school lunches throughout the United States, this peanut butter and jelly sandwich pays homage to the two thousand or so I have eaten.  Yes, I went through different jam and jelly stages for months at a time (my current favorite is blackberry); yet, the PB&J is a sweet reminder of an innocent and carefree time in my life.
