Canning Jars - Final

I have finally completed my canning jar painting!  I hope you've enjoyed the progress pictures I periodically uploaded to this site.  It can be fascinating to see the evolution of a piece of art.

This painting is one of six that will travel to Dallas next week for a two-month Artists of Texas gallery show.  I'm looking forward to meeting some of my colleagues from the great country, er, state of Texas and hope to introduce my work to many art enthusiasts from the Dallas area.  I'll send more details about the locale, dates, and times in a post next week.

After a bit of a hiatus (e.g., a sick puppy, lack of motivation, family  commitments), I finally picked up a paintbrush today.  I'm attempting to give the fruits and veggies more depth.  I've changed the angle of light as well.  Highlights are still a couple of days away....

More details are beginning to appear. I'm playing with the background. (Longtime followers know the agony I experience with this part of the process!) Still need to tackle those lids and the baby corn....

The "innards" of the jars are starting to form (from left to right): pickles, peaches, plum jam, tomatoes, and baby corn. My angles/spheres look a bit off. Corrections are forthcoming....

Canning Jars - Progress - Day 1

I am trying to be a little more diligent in "recording" my progress with my larger paintings (since I've done so few).

Canned foods are commonplace in rural Texas. I've actually tried my hand at canning and have made such delectable goodies as spiced pears, loquat jam, tomato sauce, fig preserves, strawberry jam, dill pickles, and apple jelly. They look like glistening jewels inside those glass jars! Now, it is time to immortalize them in art. Stay tuned....
