As promised, here is the final painting.  The barn and windmill are from our homestead in Schulenburg, Texas.  This kind of minimalist look is a definite departure for me; however, I am pleased with the results.  

I am still toying with the name.  The working title, "The Prairie Sky" is from the song, "Deep in the Heart of Texas":

I've lived in this state for ten years and still don't know all the words (I am shocked that I haven't been sent packing!), yet that phrase keeps popping in my head when I look at this painting.  

Any other name ideas?  This isn't set in stone yet!  Let me know.  If I choose yours, I'll send an 8x8 print to you as a small token of appreciation.

I adore skeleton keys and have a collection of them that are still in use at our old farmhouse.  Each door requires a different key, causing a bit of confusion!  Anyway, while painting this, I thought a splotch of color was needed.  I've always enjoyed the phrase, "key to my heart."  Hence, a small Valentine's Day candy fit the requirement.

Fresh eggs from backyard chickens have spoiled me.  Their color, texture, and flavor are incomparable to store-bought cartons of questionable origin and ethics.  In honor of those hardworking hens, I have immortalized  one of their incredible gifts for my breakfast plate.

Aermotor Windmill

Welcome to farmlife!  This old Aermotor windmill is located in front of my Schulenburg, Texas farmhouse and was used by my husband's grandparents to pump water from the well beneath it.  We now have an electric well pump; but, the charm of this energy harvester remains.  Perhaps, someday,  it can be placed in service again as one of the work horses of the farm....

Eggplant

Here is the final painting of a five-painting commissioned series.  The eggplants at my nearby grocery store were pathetic; hence photos and two previous eggplant paintings I've done were my references.  (Unfortunately, that means there is nothing for me to eat!!!) The photo of the artwork (above) does not do justice to the rich, deep jewel tones of the flesh;  trust me, though, they are there.

Garlic

Painting #3 of a 5-painting commissioned series is one of the most indispensable ingredients in my kitchen:  a head of garlic.  This particular model will join several more for an indescribably delectable garlic soup.  I first discovered this unsung pleasure while dining at a Spanish restaurant in the gaslight district of San Diego sixteen years ago.  Though my attempts at recreating it were futile at first, I happened upon a recipe in a cookbook that is close--complete with a fried egg in the broth!  Heavenly.

Here is painting number 3 in a five-painting commissioned series.  How I dearly miss tomatoes from my own garden!  Still, this model served me well.  With a little sea salt, it was a juicy snack.

Red Onion

This is the first painting of a five-painting commission for a client in Montreal.  I like the idea of a "permanent garden" in one's kitchen--especially at this time of year!



Pomegranate

The pomegranate has got to be the most complicated fruit in this area.  We have a tree growing on our farm property--absolutely loaded with these amazing red orbs; yet, they are never ripe when I pick them and attempt to remove the innards.  When they are clearly ready for eating, the  bugs have already devoured massive quantities.  Any advice for next year?
