This painting underwent numerous background changes last year before I settled on the two-part "mottled" green. I still wasn't pleased with the result and took the painting to an fellow artist (who is an expert framer) for advice. She designed this combination--vastly enhancing my piece. Needless to say, she fell in love with it and is now its proud owner.

La Grange Farmhouse

I enjoy revisiting my drafting roots from college periodically. This drawing of a 1920s home in La Grange, Texas was no exception. Commissioned by a cousin of my husband's, I was able to actually visit the location prior to tackling the project.

Red Onion

I adore the background of this onion (the second attempt in the subject's existence). It has a "Tuscan" feel to it. More effort, but worth the results.

Chile peppers rule in Texas. I especially like the background on this--Until recently, I often painted a horizontal line in the picture to indicate a table edge and background. Now, I am painting gradations from dark to light. It is more of a challenge, but also more enjoyable when I "get it right."

Red Poppy Festival Banners

Here are some photos of my painting on banners surrounding the historic courthouse and Square in Georgetown, Texas. It was thrilling to stroll past each one. They will remain in place for a month, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of chances to enjoy my "moment" of fame.

There's nothing like the crispness of a freshly opened can of tennis balls. I need to find a partner who won't laugh at my pathetic serve.

Mussel on the Beach

This is yet another one of my "3-D" art pieces, using acrylic modeling paste, fine garnet gel, and heavy gloss varnish for the surfaces of the water and mussel. I love the uneven surface and resulting texture--definitely a painting meant to be enjoyed through sight and touch.

Raffle Tickets Available

Wonderful Day, Acrylic on Canvas, 18x14

Raffle tickets are now available for my original, framed painting, "Wonderful Day," which is being used for the advertising campaign of this year's 2009 Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown, Texas. Half the proceeds will go toward the restoration and beautification efforts for the historic downtown square.

This painting is a combination of three elements: a photo of my daughter holding a red balloon at the 2008 Red Poppy Festival, the southern fenceline at our Schulenburg farm, and the infamous poppy field in "The Wizard of Oz."

Tickets for the artwork are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5 and may be purchased from either the Visitor Information Center (101 W. Seventh Street, Georgetown, TX 78626) or me. Posters are also available for $5 each (excluding S&H) with a limited printing of 500. The raffle will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009. (You do not need to be present to win.)
