Lobster Bubble Bath

Lobster Bubble Bath
Copyright Kristine Kainer 2014
9x12
Oil on Gessobord
Purchase Information

What is more sinfully delectable than a lobster or more relaxing than a bubble bath?  How about the two combined?

This painting is a definite departure for me.  Whimsical in nature, it combines my love of lobster (I'm anxiously awaiting our Lobstergram delivery next week for my daughter's fifteenth birthday here in land-locked Austin, TX) and the joys of a bubble bath in an old clawfoot tub in our 1928 farmhouse.

Oysters on the Half Shell with Lemon

Oil on Belgian Linen Panel
6x6

Freshly shucked oysters can still be had--regardless of the time of year--here in Austin.  My mother, daughter, and I recently dined at Perla's on South Congress and, of course, ordered the oysters.  Lots of photos were taken (of the oysters, not the family).  These were part of my lunch....

Greeting Cards

Hello, strangers!  It has been a busy few months and I've been spreading my wings in many directions.  The most recent, as mentioned in this post's title, is greeting cards!

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by GreetingCardUniverse.com (Target is one of their clients) to create special occasion cards.  I've only submitted a few thus far (I'm honing my Photoshop skills big time and still only know how to utilize a miniscule amount of its power!), but just found out that the above painting/card is today's "Design of the Day."  Wow.

I'll be plodding along with this side business as I rev up my engine for more original paintings in the coming month.  Having my daughter home from school for the summer, however, has created numerous, pleasant distractions.  (Alas, that doesn't pay the bills--it only creates more!)

I'll keep you posted.... (Get it?  Posted?  Tee hee....)  Enjoy your day!

P.S.  The original painting is still available.  Please contact me for further information regarding size, pricing, et. al.  Thanks!

Oil on cradled panel, 6x6--SOLD
Here's a little gem from last autumn--it needs a new home, so I've relisted it on eBay.

Oyster with Lemon

Oil on Canvas Panel, 6x6--SOLD
We are now the proud owners of a gallon of freshly shucked oysters from the Gulf of Mexico. Needless to say, I've been snacking on them throughout the day (covered in horseradish). Slurp, slurp!

Empty Clamshells with Lemon

Oil on canvas mounted to panel, 6x6--SOLD
These succulent little morsels beckoned me from the seafood counter. They had JUST ARRIVED and I promptly whisked them home to steam. Needless to say, the painting began AFTER my feast.

Mussel Shell

Oil on canvas panel, 6x6--View eBay Auction Listing
This is a remnant from New Year's Eve's gourmet lobster bake which was cooked on my wood-burning stove in Schulenburg. My husband was actually able to find clams and mussels in Georgetown, Texas earlier in the day. A friend from Houston brought the lobsters. Along with shrimp, red bliss potatoes, corn on the cob, artchoke hearts, and poached garlic cloves--all in a white wine-based broth, this was sheer gustatory magic!

Eggplant with Lemon

Oil on Belgian linen on panel, 6x6, $100-Purchase Information
This looks rather dark--blame it photographer (me) error. It was the wrong time of day, the paint was still wet (hence, the little specs of glossy white reflecting from the window). I may "reshoot" this another time for better quality. Alas, I was in a hurry and already posted it on eBay--we'll see if anyone can look beyond my lack of talent in the photography department.

Pucker Up

Oil on Artists Board, 6x6 --View eBay Auction
Voila! I may have "hit" upon my style--not quite impressionistic, but not photorealistic either. I got creative with the title. This could be a fun way to market!

Lemon Study in Oil

Above are two 6x6 panels of lemon studies. I took my first oil painting class last week with the inimitable Carol Marine and, though I've painting in oils before, I was self-taught: my techniques were lacking. These lemons were part of an assignment--paint 10 miniature paintings in ten minutes each. The thought was that improvement would be apparent by the last few. In my case, number 10 wasn't the best--I was hungry and wanted lunch! Otherwise, I'd say the assignment was a success. I think it's time to devote an entire panel to a lemon using oils. Fingers crossed!

Shrimp with Lemon Slices

Shrimp with Lemon Slices - Acrylic on Panel, 6x6 - SOLD

This painting, requested by some lovely clients in Hilton Head, is actually version #2 of a piece I did (and sold) over a year ago and is based on a photo in well-known lobster catalog. I actually think this one is better and will probably include it in next year's calendar. I'll certainly replace the print I have in my portfolio!
